Chat GPT is an AI programme that uses machine learning to process data and provide responses to user inquiries. Originally, the AI model was launched as a research review so Open AI could understand more of the system's strengths and weaknesses through user feedback. Now, there are two models that are available for public use, Chat GPT 3.5 and Chat GPT 4.0. We had a look at the two models side by side to see what paying for AI really means.
One of the biggest positives of Chat GPT 3.5 is that it is free to use. You can quickly enter into the platform and find the answers you need without having a usage limit. It gives you quick responses within the off-peak time, can analyse most data and generates text summaries, stories, resumes etc.
We asked Chat GPT (3.5) to give us a short summary of The Great Gatsby and this was the response we received within seconds:
"The Great Gatsby" follows the mysterious and wealthy Jay Gatsby's pursuit of his lost love, Daisy Buchanan, through the eyes of narrator Nick Carraway. Set in the 1920s, the novel delves into themes of the American Dream, love, and the emptiness of wealth. Gatsby's extravagant parties and obsession with Daisy ultimately lead to tragedy, highlighting the consequences of illusions and the pursuit of unattainable dreams.
Chat GPT (3.5) is great for casual use but there are a couple of aspects you have to keep in mind. Peak hours tend to be between 4pm and 6pm, during peak hours the platform tends to be very slow in response time which is unhelpful if you are trying to meet a deadline or just need a quick summary or piece of information.
Its knowledge is also limited to January 2022 so you cannot access most recent data through the free (3.5) version which hinders the accuracy of a lot of its information if you are unaware of this knowledge.
Chat GPT Plus costs a total of $20 a month and subscribers receive a number of benefits from the paid version of the Ai platform.
As stated before, Chat GPT 3.5 has a slower response time during peak times. With the 4.0 model this is not a worry as users get priority but it is important to note that there is a usage limit. Once you reach this limit, the AI model automatically goes back to Chat 3.5.
GPT 4.0 has a longer memory, it can learn complex language patterns, leading to well written responses and in depth descriptions.
We asked the 4.0 model to give a short summary of The Great Gatsby and this is what we received.
"The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a novel set in the roaring 1920s that explores themes of wealth, class, and the American Dream. It follows the enigmatic Jay Gatsby, a wealthy man who throws extravagant parties in hopes of reuniting with his former love, Daisy Buchanan, who is married to the aristocratic but unfaithful Tom Buchanan. The story is narrated by Nick Carraway, a young man from the Midwest who moves next door to Gatsby and becomes entangled in his neighbor’s complicated life and relationships. The novel ultimately portrays Gatsby's tragic pursuit of a dream that is tainted by corruption, deceit, and shallow social values, reflecting the moral decay hidden behind the glittering façade of wealth and privilege.
When asked the same question as the 3.5 model, we can see that the 4.0 models’ response has more depth, giving the user a better understanding of the novel.
The newer model also has the ability to access the internet through the ‘Browse with Bing’ feature which is not available to free users. The model has access to the most up to date information quickly and with ease.
We asked 4.0 how many global users TikTok has in 2024 and this is the response we received:
As of 2024, TikTok has approximately 1.9 billion global users (Fit Small Business). This represents a substantial growth since the platform's earlier days, highlighting its widespread popularity and influence across different demographics and regions.
As you can see from this example you are given a source for the information so you can cross check via simply clicking a link.
Another huge selling point for the Plus version of Chat GPT is Dall-E3. Dall-E3 is a generative AI model originally released in 2021 that creates images from text prompts it is given. We asked Dall-E3 to create an image that perfectly depicts the novel The Wind in the Willows and this is what was generated.
